The consumer is king with twitter

It might seem hyperbolic to state that Twitter is becoming one of the best methods of advertising in the world but it is starting to seem that way. Large businesses are using the site to expand even further, medium-sized businesses are trying to play catch up on Twitter and small companies just want to get on the map. Regardless of the intention, Twitter is a great place to increase your company’s revenue through sales. When you consider how many millions of people use Twitter, it can be easily surmised that they are also existing customers of your company so you need to be careful not to alienate them by over-advertising.

In business, the customer is always right. Irrespective of how obnoxious or unreasonable they may be, the consumer is king. Treat them poorly, and they will run off to another company, leaving you feeling as jilted as a bride at the altar. Every follower of your business is either an existing client or a potential one. Therefore, you must keep them interested in your product and always be there to answer queries they may have.

Twitter can do amazing things for a company that markets itself correctly and gains a reputation for treating its customers well. By taking care of your customer’s needs, you will quickly gain a positive reputation. Offering prizes and engaging in promotions is a great way to get your name known by even more people. By doing this, you will be known as a company that likes to give to its customers leading to more consumers checking you out to see what the fuss is all about.

However, Twitter could also torpedo a company’s reputation if they make grievous errors. As any man who has lost a girlfriend due to his habit of breaking wind in bed will attest to, even minor infractions can do irreparable harm to your company. Small businesses in particular are susceptible to this due to the sheer speed with which Twitter operates. A few negative tweets regarding your poor customer service can soon mushroom and get out of control thanks to the phenomenon known as retweeting. While a larger company can afford to engage in a face saving public relations exercise, smaller companies will just have to suffer the consequences.

However, don’t let this detract from the fabulous power of Twitter. If your company is well organized and treats its customers with respect, you will benefit enormously. Thanks to Twitter, it has never been more important to ensure that your customer service is top notch.
